David Bowie, a godlike cultural icon and musical groundbreaker, died on Sunday (Jan. 10). 2 days before that, on his 69th birthday, he released his final studio album (and twenty seventh overall), Blackstar, which features a song referred to as “Lazarus,” an allusion to the New Testament figure whom Jesus raises from the dead after four days.
The “Lazarus” music video, that premiered on January. 8, opens with a infirm, blindfold Bowiesinging, “Look up here, I’m in heaven/ I’ve got scars that can’t be seen.” Before we go any longer, it’svital to acknowledge the temptation to browse these words literally, written from the hand of a dyingBowie as he marched slowly to his quiet ending from cancer. however as an artist, we owe him the chance that he was using metaphor. “Lazarus” was his way of letting us know that this is it, and it is time for him to go home...
Where ever that may be.
They will also be rebooting the labyrenth in the hopes or sharing this amazing movie with this generation of youngsters to love and enjoy the same way we did.
Rest well Mr. Bowie
